Every Girl's Crazy 'Bout a Sharp Dressed Man

I've always thought it was easier to find irresistible girl's clothes than boy's... until now! I know, I know, it's an old idea if you are familiar with the world of Etsy or applique, but it's my first attempt and I'm in LOVE! I made this one for a work friend, but if you are expecting a little boy you can be sure that one is coming your way!

Spring Centerpiece

I came across this picture in All You and was just waiting for an excuse to make these adorable little pots.  A request from my Mom's sneaky secret sister made it happen.  They made the perfect centerpiece for her Easter feast.  

 

Here's what you need...

4" clay pots x3

white craft paint

grass blades (The article suggests real but I used an artificial grass bush)

glue gun 

string (not pictured above)

oasis floral foam

4-5 stems of daisies for each pot

Here's what you do...

 

Paint the pots white.

 

Hot glue grass blades around the bottom edge.  

I added a few loops of string to the bottom of the pot to cover the messy glue.  It looked a little cleaner

Next, fit a soaked piece of oasis floral foam snugly into the pot.  (Hint: I covered the inside of the pot with an small bit of aluminum foil just in case water would happen to try to escape.)

Finally, fill the pots with your daisies.  I found it easiest to start at the bottom and work my way to the top, making sure that they all ended up about the same height. 

Presto!

The BIG One

So recently I have been working on a SUPER BIG project.  It has taken up nearly all of my energy and, as a result, almost all of my time!  My blog posts have been few and far between. My house work has been delayed, or rather, forgotten.  My poor family didn't get a homemade supper for about 12 straight weeks. All this because my creating has been so focused on this one mammoth sized project.  Here it is...

    You must be thinking, "That's it?"  This is an easel that found me at an auction not oh so long ago.  The auctioneer pathetically begged the crowd to give him a buck, one whole dollar, for a heaping pile of junk.  Sympathetically, I raised my hand and became the lucky winner.  As I loaded up my treasures I found this easel.  It was in pretty rough shape but just charming enough to deserve a second life.  I added a simple curtain to cover the strange area at the top and gave the chalkboard a fresh coat of chalkboard paint.  But enough about that, on to the gigantic project.  Look closely at the picture...

   This is my family! My husband, me, our Little Miss, our pretentious dog, Brew, and our newest addition, and my latest creation, a baby! Yep! I'm pregnant with our second!  Week 15 is approaching and I'm feeling better every day.  My energy is slowly returning, thank God!  Just in time too, I can't stand to be one with the couch when its this nice outside! We are so excited to meet this new little blessing face to face!

Mustard, Mayo, Catch-up!!!

Haha! How CHEESY!  This is a cheer that we used to yell during our many loosing seasons of high school basketball.  This post, however, has nothing to do with food or basketball, only with catching up.  It has been over a month since my last post but I've been anything but idle.  I've been working on a really big project lately, which I will debut at a later time.  To tide you over until then, here is my latest creation, a comfy ottoman that will find a home in our soon-to-be finished basement. 

 

Here's the how-to...

 You will need...

fun fabric

some random 2x4 pieces

1 cheap sheet of plywood 18x48

1 cushion (look for a reminent if you buy from a craft store, this stuff is expensive!)

liquid nails

primer and paint

an assortment of screws and 4 hanger bolts

4 wooden post toppers (like what would be used to finish a deck)

staple gun

First, saw the plywood in half leaving two 18x24 inch pieces.  Next, cut the 2x4 into pieces that will be fixed into place around the edges the plywood.  Sandwich the 2x4's with the second sheet of plywood and screw into place.  Then, get painting!  I primed with this gray (or grey, whichever it is!) and then topped it with black.  Once the paint is dried, use the liquid nails to adhere the cushion to the unfinished side of your plywood sandwich.  Using the staple gun, fasten the fabric around the cushion to the underside (painted side) of the plywood.  Using hanger bolts, your next step is to fix one end into the wooden post topper, then twisting the post topper crew the other into the bottom of your cushion piece.  Repeat for the remaining post toppers. Finally, sit back and kick up your feet!

Winter Blues=Spring Yellows

Dear Punxsutawney Phil,
      In the past, I have found you to be slightly irritating, always delivering the dreaded news of six more weeks of winter.  However, this year your prediction of an early spring could not be met with more excitement!  Thanks for the good news!  Now, could you please explain why it is STILL snowing?

     I've got the winter blues, and that's putting it mildly.  Although I can't change the weather outside, I decided it was time for a spring makeover inside.  This was prompted by last week's visit from my Mom.  She, very delicately, asked if she could take down my nativity scene.  Baby Jesus, I love You, but we are quickly approaching Easter.  Time to go!

     To my surprise and delight, Hobby Lobby had all their floral supplies on sale, so I stocked up.  Yellow is my springtime color of choice, and forsythia my favorite bloom.

This one will replace my nativity scene for now.

Even Grandma got in on the action.  I made this wreath for her front door.
